“Things that went well: 1) The team were very pleasant and their work was efficient 2) We felt confident in the team’s knowledge of accounting and auditing standards 3) The use of technology made the fieldwork a smoother process, e.g. the use of Inflo and audit staff being confident using log ins to our systems Improvement areas: 1) The assignment of staff didn’t work with our finance team. There were a large volumes of staff assigned for short periods, and with 2 internal finance staff we couldn’t turn requests around fast enough. This meant staff without business knowledge were picking the work up later down the line, and we ended up explaining the same fundamental concepts again and again to different people. It would also have been beneficial to get the Inflo requests lists in advance of the fieldwork, so we could have given you the basics beforehand (fixed asset registers, sales listings etc.) 2) We didn’t receive advance communications where timelines were slipping. We understand it happens, but we need to be forewarned so we can set expectations with the board.”
