Neil Norman

  • Tax Partner and Regional Head of Scotland

What do you do?

As a tax advisor I help entrepreneurial businesses, their owners, and their investors. My specialism is in EIS tax relief which investors want to incentivise them. I also work in share schemes, M&A transactions, and assisting companies with global expansion.

My other role is focused on enabling the growth of the wider firm in Scotland. This means hiring the best talent, building awareness of the firm, and embedding the phenomenal CP client service and expertise in the North.

Why do you do it?

I love working with driven, focused, entrepreneurs and helping them achieve their dreams; it never gets old. CP’s culture, values, and attitude really resonate with my own both on a personal and professional basis: brave, adventurous, seeking fun, and doing it in the right way. So, it is a pleasure to come to work.  I didn’t plan to do this for my career. Honestly, I fell into it, but I’m delighted that the #nowrongpath I took led me here.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I’ve helped many people who started with an idea [and empty pockets] get all the way to selling their businesses and becoming multi-millionaires. Then, I’ve helped them invest some of their hard-earned proceeds into others’ ideas. I like the symbiotic nature of the entrepreneurial eco-system and the willingness of people to take a chance; first on themselves and then on others.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

Ooh, that’s difficult: is it sport or is it travel…?! I’ve taken both of my kids to the Olympics (my son to London and my daughter to Paris) so that’s ticked off. I’d love to see Hearts win the Scottish Premier League (as likely as Leicester winning the Premiership). I guess now for me it’s got to be travel. My wife and I have been fortunate to have visited some wonderful places on personal & business trips and this has only whets the appetite for more. No sooner do we return from one trip than I’m thinking about what’s next. Yeah… I’m going to say Mauritius!
