What do you do?

I’m an Innovation Taxes Manager – I carry out R&D incentives claims for large and small companies who research and develop new or improved products and processes and can claim costs back as a tax reduction.

Why do you do it?

It is a combination of all my skills. I enjoy client facing work and I am from a science background. It is very interesting delving into the research and development projects across companies from all sectors. It is kind of nice to get people money back and I love the flexibility at CP. Don’t tell anyone but no I don’t like spreadsheets!

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

My favourite claim was for a company developing a new type of replacement heart valve for humans made from pig heart tissue. It had to be stitched by hand under a microscope – 800 stitches. The company involved received a significant amount of tax credits.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

I would love to the Calgary Stampede Festival (I love horses) followed by a trip to Vancouver and an Alaska cruise. I like to be in out in the wilds.
