What do you do?
I’m Director of the Data & Intelligence department – we wrangle sales and marketing data, primarily in a platform called Marketing Cloud Intelligence (formerly known as Datorama) and produce pretty dashboards. The department will be expanding into other complementary software in due course.
Why do you do it?
I’ve been ‘big into data’ for most of my career (in various forms), which was as big a surprise to me as it was to anyone else. Our company Front Foot Data Consulting (that was acquired by CP) was created to provide services to our previous employer (Datorama) as they expanded rapidly. I think the intersection of marketing/sales, data-wrangling and visualisation is something of a sweet spot for me.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
We’ve worked with huge multinationals down to niche agencies helping them make sense of the marketing and sales data. Sometimes it’s simply helping them do what they already did, just quicker and with fewer issues, other times it’s connecting data sources and creating visualisations they never thought were possible which in turn enabled them to view their business performance in a completely new way, transforming their decision-making.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
After a fairly sizeable obsession with the race to the south pole in the early 1900’s, I want to go to Antarctica! The extreme weather, the wildlife, the scenery, it all is so mind-blowing. There’s a reason why people (albeit, mostly scientists and explorers) always yearn to go back.
My family aren’t too keen though so it might have to be a solo mission…
