What do you do?

I’m an employment tax specialist with over 34 years of experience working in the Big 4. I help employers to manage their risk and wherever possible reduce the cost of employment. I’m a Chartered Tax Advisor and also a Chartered Member of the CIPD.

Why do you do it?

I fell into employment tax, I applied to join the Civil Service so applied to join HMRC as they had offices in the North West, so they initially posted me to Shepherds Bush.

I enjoy helping my clients to put proper policies and processes in place so that they only need my help for the more out of the ordinary questions such as when HMRC get in touch with them.

What kind of projects have you been involved with?

I tend to get involved with complex and unusual client issues, so implementing new benefit arrangements, termination payments, employment status enquires, car benefit consulting and most recently the tax treatment of a new crypto currency offered at a discount to employees. My clients have ranged from FTSE 100 and global multi-nationals to smaller owner managed businesses and Public Sector organisations. I have advised a number of household name businesses across Retail, Energy/Oil and Gas, Pharma, Sports, Manufacturing and Finance.

What’s on the top of your bucket list?

I have a very big bucket list as I enjoy travel, food and am a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Top of the list would probably be a trip to South America closely followed by a hot lap being driven in a two seater F1 car.
