What do you do?

I help clients consider their strategic options for themselves and their businesses and then execute that strategy, which can lead to advising clients on buying and selling businesses.

There’s a complex mesh of strategic and financing options, and I will lead them towards finding the ideal solution.

Why do you do it?

It’s great working with business owners who are realising a lifetime of effort in selling the business they have built. It’s an emotional rollercoaster for business owners and we share some of the highs and lows of that journey.

With the financing community, we get to deal with positive, creative, like-minded people who work hard to achieve successful deals – it’s an energising environment to work in. When the champagne cork pops at the lawyers and the deal is completed, I feel a tremendous sense of achievement.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

Most of our deals are selling business for private companies. Sometimes we help them make acquisitions and spend time and energy to shape the deal so that it works successfully for them after the deal.

I have particular interest in the broad spectrum of healthcare from physical services to technology, having led deals in the sector for twenty years.

We also work with Private Equity investors seeking to back the right businesses and the best managers in order to make a return.

Our knowledge of the buyers and investors helps our clients to select the right party to work with and, critically, to achieve the optimal result whether buying or selling.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

I don’t have a bucket list – but having ridden three full Tours de France for Cure Leukaemia over the past few years, I need another target: any suggestions?

In business, I want to build a successful business which develops great people that will drive forward the right values into deals for years to come.

I want to ski ‘til I’m 75 and cycle ‘til I drop. I quite fancy cycling from the north to south of Europe (Stavanger to Gibraltar).
