What do you do?
Research & Development incentives enable the Government to support the great work being undertaken by our engineers, scientists and software developers working for the brilliant businesses in the United Kingdom.
I work in a unique position where science, technology and tax intersect and in many ways act as a translator between businesses and HM Revenue & Customs.
Why do you do it?
It’s simple really. I get to speak to lots of exciting businesses about the new products and process that they have been developing. As a result, the companies get cash from the Government to continue their great work.
I have a background in Engineering and Taxation which makes R&D incentives the perfect role to utilise both sets of skills.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
Having worked in this field since 2007 I have seen virtually every type of business, from large and complex global engineering behemoths to exciting IT start-ups with two employees. Some highlights include a tour around a state-of-the-art biomass power plant and seeing a 1,200-degree Celsius glowing red-hot ingot being transferred across a steel manufacturing facility!
What’s on top of your bucket list?
I would love to go to the Moon, look back at the Earth and see the entirety of humankind in one shot. After that, it would be great to own Barnsley Football Club.
