      What do you do?

It’s a bit of a weird one really – a lot of the time in VAT and Indirect Tax, the normal rules don’t apply. They’re completely flipped on their head, and it’s often wonderfully complicated. It’s a world of it’s own!

It’s not just VAT, it’s everything from Brexit and Customs Duty to Stamp Duties and Plastic Packaging Tax. No two days are ever the same.

If I had to sum it up in one sentence, If a client has a question or a problem, I help them cut through the jargon, work out what the rules are from the legislation, case law and guidance, and then offer a practical solution.

      Why do you do it?

I’m a Law graduate that didn’t want to be a solicitor or barrister, so applied for a role in Indirect Tax on a whim!

Even though it was an accident, Indirect Tax suits me to a T – I’m a proper geek through and through, and I’m also a little bit rebellious. I love having the freedom to do things differently to our competitors and challenge the status quo.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I do a little bit of everything, but mostly projects such as making tax digital reviews and Indirect Tax Health Checks.

They help identify any potential problems that could be picked up by HMRC if they come knocking, but also help find any areas where you could potentially save or reclaim some cash.

I also love a bit of Plastic Packaging Tax! It’s not very often a new Indirect Tax is introduced, and it’s so rewarding helping businesses find cash efficient methods of navigating their new obligations.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

I don’t think I could pick just one – essentially, I just want to travel! An African Safari would definitely be up there, as well as visiting Japan and a super-relaxed holiday somewhere like the Bahamas!
