What do you do?
I primarily work in tax compliance for individuals, partnerships and trusts, with some ad hoc advisory work.
Why do you do it?
I didn’t have a childhood dream of being an accountant nor was Maths my favourite subject at school!
I studied History at university and after a few years of figuring out what I wanted to do I ended up in tax… having more of a ‘words’ brain has turned out to be really handy as we have to be able to interpret legislation as well as explain complex rules in an easy to understand way.
There are always things to learn with Tax, which is great, and it also affects everyone so you do feel like you are making a difference.
I really enjoy talking to and learning more about our clients – what they have done to get to where they are currently and where they would like to be in future.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
Helping to make the tax compliance season as smooth for our clients as possible, and helping them to plan for the future.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
Like many my bucket list mainly involves travel. I have been lucky enough to live abroad in the US and Germany and to travel to places like Australia and Vietnam but my ‘to visit’ list is constantly growing… at the moment South Korea and New Zealand are towards the top. The great thing about CP’s open holiday policy is that we don’t have to worry about fitting everything into 28 days per year!
