What do you do?
I do tax! I work in the private client tax team, looking after clients’ personal affairs, tax returns and other income tax queries. My main client base are our high net worth clients (previous & current business owners, senior execs, entrepreneurs, Wealth clients etc.). On top of this, I have an accounting background which helps with my understanding of how companies work.
The other month, a client said to me:
“Your ability to process almost incomprehensible information, from multiple sources, and politely and persistently chase people who know they have to but don’t really want to do all this stuff is invaluable.”
Why do you do it?
I just love tax. I’ve always found it interesting as its one of few guaranteed things in life. I look at it as if it’s a problem to solve and something that can really make a difference to peoples’ lives if done correctly.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
I’ve looked at income extraction out of a company and how they could do it tax efficiently. I’ve dealt with pension contributions for clients who have ended up with thousands of pounds refunded back to them. Soon, I’ll be moving clients to another country to reduce their effective tax rate. And I’ve been looking at income shifting between spouses/civil partners to ensure that their income is being taxed in the most efficient way.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
Most of the things regard travelling – I want to travel the world! One of the top things is to travel coast to coast in America (West to East or East to West) in a camper van. There are so many different lifestyles/cultures within one country. For example, you can go from Native American communities to the lively atmosphere of NYC.
