What do you do?

I help clients find their way through the maze of trip wires that is personal and trust tax. That covers everything from Income Tax to Capital Gains Tax to Inheritance Tax. Joining CP is giving me the opportunity to build on my knowledge and focus on Trust and Inheritance Tax issues.

Why do you do it?

I made the decision to become a chartered accountant at the age of 12 – how did I even know what one is? And here I am now. A few years older.

The accountancy world has changed a lot in that time and we are no longer bean counters. We are a source of knowledge and support for our clients. The relationships we build are just as important as the numbers. Tax is scary to many people and I enjoy showing them it doesn’t need to be. Tax should be understandable and manageable. Everyone has to pay it, it’s a fact of life so let’s keep it as simple as possible.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

I get involved in estate planning to help clients save Inheritance Tax for future generations often including the use of Trusts. The outcomes are to give clients peace of mind that they have done all they can to minimise the tax they have to pay. At the same time making sure they have the resources to live the life they have worked so hard for.

What’s on top of your bucket list?

To stand on the edge of an erupting volcano – at a safe distance. I’m an accountant after all! I can’t really explain this one, it’s just something I’ve always wanted to do.  It might have something to do with wanting to go to Hawaii to do it!

And I want to be able to play Bohemian Rhapsody on the piano – why wouldn’t you?
