What do you do?
I manage a number of portfolios for managing agents that specialise in residential properties. We produce the year-end service charge accounts and make sure that our clients receive the best service we can offer. I also get involved in ad hoc project work, anything from reviews of handover accounts to utility bill reconciliation.
Why do you do it?
I completely fell into accounting, and my service charge journey was certainly not planned. The summer before I was meant to start Uni to study law I got carried away in Ibiza… and uni never happened. I started a job as a receptionist at a small firm, I soon figured out I was on the wrong side and signed up to study AAT, and the rest is history.
I love my job and I’ve worked in the industry my whole career. I love the variety of work I can get involved in. One minute I’m drafting accounts or mentoring other team members, the next I’m with a client discussing the benefits of our bespoke software, Snapshot.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
I have been involved in a lot of projects over the years, from software analysis to compliance reviews and updates. It may sound boring, but the service we offer our clients relies on us as a team being up to date with both technology and industry knowledge… and if i’m being honest I’m a complete geek when it comes to this sort of thing.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
Top of my bucket list is to backpack through Asia, it’s been a dream since I was at school, and I’ve started planning a few times but it’s never materialised. Travel really interests me, but the typical package beach holiday is not for me, I understand why people find a place they like and go back year after year, but I want to see as many places as possible!
