What do you do?
I work in the pensions audit team at CP. This involves me working on several pension audits, along with managing some and guiding the team through this.
Why do you do it?
I love working with numbers and have always enjoyed problem solving. Accountancy was always an option for me when I left school and I had the opportunity to start AAT whilst working in retail, which is something that I started at the age of 14. Developing my knowledge in accounts and completing the first level of AAT helped me with my application at CP. I also had the opportunity to complete work experience, which I really enjoyed, so knew it was the place for me to be and to complete my studies.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
I wouldn’t say projects are specific to pensions. However, a ‘project’ could be being involved in the Pension Protection Fund (PPF). PPF are very strict with deadlines and have specialized teams that work solely on producing the accounts involved in the administration and audits. We’re lucky enough to be one of those firms. I really enjoy being a part of the PPF, as every Scheme is a new challenge, not one Scheme is the same. Being able to meet the tight deadlines set is a great achievement and is a huge benefit to clients as it also takes pressure off them.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
I haven’t ever really thought about a bucket list, so I can’t say I have a specific ‘top’. I love to travel, so would definitely love to travel more around the world when exams are out of the way. This is something that I want to do with my spare time. I love seeing the different cultures of different parts of the world and I feel it’s a very exciting and lucky experience to be able to be involved in. And it’s something I did a lot of at a young age, so I want to continue that now.
