What do you do?
As a Manager in the R&D team, I work with a variety of clients to identify what aspects of what they do qualify for R&D Incentives Relief, and then work with them to maximise their claims and generate cash to inject back in to their businesses.
Why do you do it?
I started my career in tax back in 2008 at a mid-tier accountancy firm. I’ve specialised in several areas of tax throughout my career and have now found my niche in R&D. I love it. I first started at Cooper Parry in 2011 after I became a Chartered Tax Adviser, and I have grown with the firm over that time and have been lucky enough to share in its fantastic successes.
What kind of projects have you been involved in?
I have dealt with a wide range of industries which has given huge variety to my experience since specialising in R&D back in 2017.
I take great satisfaction in talking to my clients to understand what they’re up to and how we can help to maximise their R&D Incentives claims. There are so many misconceptions when it comes to R&D and whether a company can make claims. It’s great to see that ‘lightbulb moment’ when a client realises what they are doing is absolutely R&D, and they are going to make some fantastic cash savings as a result. R&D is of the most attractive tax reliefs available to UK businesses and it is my job to make sure my clients are claiming what they are entitled to.
What’s on top of your bucket list?
I’ve ticked a few things off already – a sky dive at Lake Taupo, swimming with dolphins, completing the Three Peaks National Challenge and holidaying from San Francisco to Vegas. I now have a toddler and can’t wait to show her the world. First stop has to be Disney World – me and my husband can’t wait!
