What do you do?

As a corporate lawyer, I provide advice to a range of clients, from established companies to founders and start-ups on acquisitions and sales, funding rounds and joint venture arrangements, as well as general corporate advisory work such as shareholders’ agreements and employee share schemes. I have particular experience advising on corporate matters in the tech, media and entertainment spaces.

Why do you do it?

I actually wanted to do an art degree at university but was ‘encouraged’ to choose something more academic (law or medicine, basically). Since then, I haven’t looked back, and now, I really enjoy the fast-paced nature of M&A.

I enjoy working with founders and owner managed businesses as they grow or sell. It can be quite touching seeing your clients realise their dreams and being able to help them on that journey.

What kind of projects have you been involved in?

One that stands out is the sale of music rights for Phil Collins and his Genesis bandmates – that was an exciting transaction to be a part of and one of the biggest deals of its kind.

I have been involved in advising founders on investment funding rounds ensuring they have sufficient provisions in the legal documentation to protect their business. As well as working on the opposite side, acting for investors to ensure their investments are legally protected, so I am able to anticipate what the key issues are likely to be on both sides.

I have set up various employee share schemes – one that was particularly interesting and complex for an Oscar-winning film production company (luckily before the win otherwise that would have been a very different exercise price!)

What’s on top of your bucket list?

To visit all seven wonders of the world.
